Welcome to Mediaradio.com

Did you ever dream of being able to listen to a radio station from a far away place? Or be able to listen to your hometown radio station from a distant land? Well, your dreams are about to become reality. You may now listen to radio stations from all over the world right here where you are, live, over the Internet. If it is your first visit to this site, please read this entire page carefully.

Mediaradio.com presents live material from different locations of the world and display them to you in an integrated fashion. From just one place you will be able to listen to the radio, read the local paper, check the weather and even take a peek outside using one of our many live cameras. Everything is live! Mediaradio.com prides itself also of being the most accurate, the most informative and the easiest to use of all media sites on the Internet. Mediaradio.com is the only site to display technical information on each station as well as a short description for all of them when they are added to the site. It is only the only one that tells the language of broadcasting (a main reason that is used to teach modern languages in many universities throughout the world) and the only one to show the stations logos in an attractive setting.

Now what do you need to enter this fascinating world of live broadcasting? You need at least a pentium-class (or equivalent) computer, a 28.8 Kbps or more Internet connection and a recent Web browser. You will also need specialized software to listen to the radio (we will talk of this in the next paragraph).

In order to listen to a radio station on the Internet, the station must provide and Internet feed for us to tune in to. These feeds can use different technologies and consequently we must use a different tuner for each (the specialized software I was speaking of in the previous paragraph). The most important tuners should already be installed in your computer if you have a recent Web browser, otherwise you can download them free of charge. Everything on this site is free. If you need to download a tuner, follow the instructions on the site, download the file in a convenient place (the desktop or a temporary disrectory) and then install it. Now let's describe these techologies:

The RA technology, or Real Audio from Real Systems is the most common of all. It presents itself in versions 2.0, 3.0, 5.0, G2, 7.0, 8.0 and RealOne. At least a G2 tuner is required to play all RA stations. If you do not have the latest RA player on your machine, you may download it by clicking on the icon on the left. You only need to download the free RA player (you do not need to have the "Plus" player which is not free).

The WM technology or Windows Media from Microsoft is another very popular way broadcasting technology. This player is included in Windows 98+ and Internet Explorer 5+. If you do not have this tuner on your machine, you may download it by clicking on the icon on the left. Some (very few) WM stations require an ActiveX control, a small software to eliminate local advertising in conformity with rights agreements. The Abacast software is easy to install, just follow the instructions when you first use a station using these technologies.

The QT or QuickTime player used the technology developed by Apple Computers. Only versions 5.0+ support streaming radio. Click on the icon to download it.

You may install the players one by one by running the installation programs previously downloaded. Follow the instructions until the process is complete (it usually involves clicking on a series of "OK" or "Next" buttons). You may dispose of the installation programs after they are all installed.

Notes:

  • If you are a beginner on computer or on the Internet, limit yourself to the RealPlayer and WindowsMedia tuners. You will not be able to listen to all stations but since 96% of stations uses these technologies you should have a large enough choice. Once comfortable enough with the process you may proceed to install the other players at a later time.
  • M3U stations can be listened to with Real Player or Windows Media Player. No special extra software required.
  • Flash stations only require Adobe Flash, a plugin installed on almost all computers already.
